In plain terms

Bond and workers’ comp, explained.

Contractor’s bond

$25,000

What a bond is

A contractor’s bond is a surety bond: a set dollar amount, backed by a bonding company and filed with the CSLB as part of the license record. Claims against it are governed by California law.

A bond is not insurance, and it is capped at its amount. Ours is $25,000 through American Contractors Indemnity Company, per the CSLB record.

Workers’ compensation

On file

What workers’ comp is

Workers’ compensation is insurance for employees who are hurt on the job. It covers workers. It is not coverage for your property or your project.

Ours is on file with Hartford Casualty Insurance Company, per the CSLB record.

This page describes only what appears on our CSLB record. It is general information, not legal advice. For the details of any bond or policy, check the CSLB record or ask us directly.

The classification

What a C-8 license covers.

“A concrete contractor forms, pours, places, finishes and installs specified mass, pavement, flat and other concrete work; and places and sets screeds for pavements or flatwork.”
CSLB, C-8 Concrete Contractor, California Code of Regulations, Title 16.

In plain terms, it is the state classification for concrete work. For the full legal wording and any limits, read the classification on the CSLB website.
